As this is being posted, I am in the middle of a six-hour drive to Cleveland, OH. Although the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a tempting tourist destination, that is not the purpose of my trip.
Instead of going to Cleveland to see Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin memorabilia, I’m meeting hundreds of other pastors there. We’re not meeting together as rock star groupies. We’re looking forward to meeting and hearing some preaching “stars”—Alistair Begg and John Piper—at the 09 Basics Conference.
Here’s the difference—Hendrix, Jimmy Page and all the others in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were sought out by fans of their stardom. Begg, Piper and other well-known Bible expositors are sought out by fans of their subject. I am looking forward to spending the next three days exalting the name of Christ and drinking in His Word with men who are fans of the Gospel.
I am not efficient enough to live-blog anything, but I will refer you to one who is an expert. Tim Challies is a prolific blogger who will be attending and live-blogging the event. Check in at his site to see what we’re up to!
