Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Christmas Family Devotional Guide

Righteous Servant
Isa. 53:11; Matt. 20:28

When I think of Christmas there are many thoughts that race through my mind. I think of the sounds, the lights, the decorations, the music, family gatherings, gift giving and most importantly God’s gift to us. God’s perfect gift to us was His son, Jesus Christ. He came into an imperfect world as the perfect gift for the atonement of our sins.

And when He came, He did not come to be served or to overthrow the government, rather He came to serve. The God of the cosmos lowered Himself into human flesh to serve. He served the sick by healing them. He served those who sought to understand Him by taking time to talk to them. He served the hungry by feeding them. Why did He serve others, because He saw their desperate need and He loved them.

It is so easy to lose the importance of Christmas to commercialization. It is so easy to get caught up in having to buy just the right gift, but this year I want to challenge you to look at Christmas through a different lens—that of a servant.

This Christmas give a gift that cannot be purchased off a shelf at a retail store, give the gift of service. Look for needs in your neighborhood, community or church and make it your goal to reach out and serve others who are in need. That is a gift that will continue to give long after the last gift under the Christmas tree is unwrapped.
