Isaiah 55:7
Changed Lives—Justin Martyr
We forewarn you to be on your guard, lest evil spirits deceive you and distract you from reading and understanding what we say. For they strive to hold you as their slaves and servants. And sometimes by appearances in dreams and sometimes by magical deceptions, they subdue all those who fail to make strong opposing efforts for their own salvation.
Since we are persuaded by the Word, we stand aloof from the demons and follow the only self-existing God though His Son. We who formerly delighted in sexual immorality now embrace chastity alone. We who formerly used magical arts dedicate ourselves to the good and self-existing God. We who valued above all things the acquisition of wealth and possessions now bring what we have into a common stock and share with everyone in need.
We who hated and destroyed one another and on account of their different manners would not live with men of a different tribe now, since the coming of Christ, live with them intimately. Now we pray for our enemies and try to persuade those who hate us unjustly to comply with Christ’s good principles and commands to the end that they may come to share with us the same joyful hope of a reward from God, the ruler of all.
