Ministry, leadership, discipleship, the local church and the deep riches of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Today's time being shaped by the Word is in Philippians 4:10-14.
Enable me to show Your love every time I have the opportunity (10). Whether I have a lot or a little, whether today is easy or painful, teach me to be content by trusting that Jesus is strong enough to hold me securely (12-13).
Today's time being changed by the Word is in Philippians 4:8-9.
Take all my thoughts captive so that the only thoughts left are those that are true, have eternal value, are just, are pure, are beautiful in Your eyes, and that others would affirm as good (8). Then align what I DO with what I think, which will be based on what I have learned, heard, and seen in Your Word. By this, cover me with Your peace (9).
Teach me how to have joy in You always. Joy in You is so important that Paul says it twice and actually commands us to rejoice in You (4). Help me show everybody I meet undeserved kindness today as You make Your grace known through me (5). Help me not to worry. Instead, keep my heart and mind at peace as I put ALL my concerns in Your hands, trusting that You will work ALL things for good (6-7).
Today's life-shaping truth is in Philippians 4:1-3.
Give me people in Your body whose obedience is my joy and my only desired reward (1). Help us to stand firm (1) by remembering where our true citizenship is and the glory to come (3:19-20). Use me to foster unity in your body with a singular focus on the gospel (2-3) rather than personal preferences. Thank You for co-workers. Thank You for writing my name in the book of life when my pen was completely out of ink (3).
As I imitate You, let there be a chain of people who imitate my imitation of You (17). Break my heart over those who remain an enemy of the cross (18). Instead of living for this world, You are my life, my God, my glory, my focus, and my King (19-20).
Today's direction-altering Bible reading is in Philippians 3:12-16.
Thank You for taking hold of me and not letting go. Help me to do ALL I can today to grow toward maturity in You (12). I will grow toward spiritual maturity by: admitting I am not there yet, not dwelling on past failures or achievements (3), but making it my daily goal to pursue the future heavenly reward promised by God rather than earthly reward from people (13-15), and living today in line with all that You have taught me from Your Word so far (16).
Read Philippians 3:7-11 and let the Spirit apply it.
In light of the perfect righteousness of Jesus, my best attempts at righteousness are shown to be worthless (7). The best thing for me is knowing Jesus (8). So I reject my reliance on my own "righteousness" in order to gain Christ's real righteousness (9). Help me know Jesus better today, live in His power today, be ready to suffer for that which He suffered, be dead to sin, and trust You to raise me up in the end (10-11).
Help me rejoice today in keeping someone from thinking that they please You by their outward religious activity. Help me walk "by the Spirit" rather than according to what people expect (3). So spiritually circumcise my heart so that I will be clearly marked as Yours on the inside: as one of Your people, one of Your children, a true Israelite by faith, living out the law of love, zealously killing sin in my life, and righteous with Christ's righteousness (5-6).
Today's Word that changes us is in Philippians 2:25-30.
Make me more like Epaphroditus today: relating to others believers like a real brother or sister, working at the same task, fighting the same fight, ministering to their needs, being more concerned for them than for myself (25-27). Let me not give greater value to famous, beautiful, or popular people, but to those who give their lives daily to make known the gospel of Christ (29-30). Make me this kind of believer today.
Today, read Philippians 2:19-24 to be changed by it.
Let the spiritual successes of those I disciple be my joy (19). Help me be like Timothy: truly burdened for the good of others (20), attentive to what Christ is attentive to (21), and spreading God's rule through sharing the good news of Jesus (22). Sustain my hope that You will enable me to continue in service to You despite all visible obstacles (24).
Today's mind-sanctifying Bible reading is in Philippians 2:17-18.
Teach me today what it looks like to be poured out completely in order to grow others' faith to the point where they offer Jesus sacrificial service (17). Let me know the joy that comes from being poured out for others (17) as well as the joy of seeing my spiritual children walking well (18).
Today's reminder of godliness is in Philippians 2:14-16.
Don't let me hide Your light from the world today by complaining, as if You do not work all things for the good of Your people. Don't let me hide Your light from others today by arguing, as if You don't persuade Your people of truth by Your Spirit-applied Word (14-16). Make my work for You today fruitful, even if I don't see it until Christ returns (16).
Today's mind-changing Bible reading is from Philippians 2:12-13.
Just as You displayed your power through Jesus' humiliation unto death (2:5-11), make Your power to help me want and work in line with Your will super obvious in light of my absolute weakness (fear and trembling) to want and work for you (12-13). So satisfy me to walk in weakness today so that Your power to save will be clear to all.
Today's time in the Word is in Philippians 2:5-11.
Make me humble like Christ so that I: 1) let go of self-promotion in order to promote Christ (5-6), 2) empty myself in order to be filled by You (7), and 3) have unconditional obedience to You (8). As I shout to the world that Christ is my master, let my life today display Your greatness (11).
Today's time shaped by the Word is in Philippians 2:1-4.
Because of what Christ means to me (He encourages me, loves me, partners me with the Spirit, shows me affection and mercy) unify me with Your body in thought, love, passion, and goal (1-3). Keep me from doing church work to look better or more important than others. Cause me to be willing to sacrifice my own good for the good of others to show them that You think they are worth it (4).
Today's transforming Bible reading is in Philippians 1:21-30.
If I live until tomorrow, let me use it to serve You by helping others grow in joy and confidence in You (21-26). Help me to walk worthy and to help others walk worthy of Your kindness toward us in Christ. Give us a common spirit, mind, work, and struggle, even to the point of suffering together to make Jesus known (27-30).
Today's time being shaped by the Spirit-applied Word is in Philippians 1:12-20.
Let everything that happens to me today, good and bad, result in sharing Jesus with all around me (12). Encourage others to share from seeing how you use my struggles to open doors for me to share (14). Fill me with the joy from Jesus being shared (18). Even if it were to lead to my physical death, don't let me do anything today that I would be ashamed of when I stand in Your presence (20).
Thank You for including me among Your saints (1). Thank You for the peace with God that only comes from Your grace toward me (2). Make me a faithful partner in sharing the gospel, and perfect me in that work (3-7). Give me the affection that Christ has for His body (8). Help us, His church, to grow in wisdom so we will know what really matters (9-10). Produce fruit in me today that displays how amazing You are (11).
Read Ephesians 6:21-24 asking God to shape you by it.
By the way I serve You today, cause me to be known for being Your faithful servant (21). Use me to encourage Your people today (22). From You alone can I find true peace in the midst of this world's chaos, love in the midst of others' rejection of me, and faith in You when my pain blinds me from seeing You (23). Cause my love for You to be undying (24).
