Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Christmas Family Devotional Guide

The Week of Peace

Since the time of the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, mankind has been separated from God. God’s chosen people continued to disobey His commands and this brought the judgment of God upon the nation of Israel. The Hebrew people prayed for the Messiah to come and give them victory and peace over their oppressors. But their greatest need was for the Messiah to come and bring about peace with God!

Today sin still causes all mankind to be separated from God. All who are lost in their sins are “children of wrath” (Eph. 2:3). The world desperately needs the only thing that can bring about reconciliation with God. The world now needs the ‘Prince of Peace,’ Jesus Christ to bring each person who believes peace with God through His sacrifice.

(At this time, relight the 1st purple candle and light the second purple candle).
Say, “I light this candle on the second Sunday of Advent to remind us of the Peace that God has given through His Son. Let us remember the peace with God that Jesus has brought to all who believe in Him. Let us also prepare our hearts and home to celebrate the birth of our King.”

Read Zechariah 9:9-10; Luke 2:13-14

“Hark! The herald angels sing, ‘Glory to the new-born King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild; God and sinners reconciled.’ Joyful all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; with angelic hosts proclaim, ‘Christ is born in Bethlehem!’ Hark! The herald angels sing, ‘Glory to the new-born King.’
Hail the heav’n born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth. Hark! The herald angels sin, ‘Glory to the new-born King.’” (Charles Wesley, 1007-1788, alt. George Whitefield, 1714-1770)

Talk with your family about the true peace that Jesus brings into your lives.

Pray a prayer of thanksgiving that Jesus came to bring peace between mankind and God.
