There is a sense of quiet awe that comes during the Christmas season when we experience the joy of deliverance. In Christ, believers have deliverance from darkness of sin and from the power of darkness. This is the assurance given so plainly in God’s Word. God has “delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins (Col. 1:13-14).
Paul declares, “Ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of the light” (Eph.5:8). In 1 Thessalonians 5:5 Paul tells us, “ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.” Then in 1 Peter 2:9, we read “ye are a chosen generation a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light!”
This Christmas, let’s keep foremost in our minds the reason for the celebrating the birth of God’s Son who came to deliver us from our sins.
