Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Christmas Family Devotional Guide

The Life

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me'. "

Jesus said,..."I am the life..." In Mature Living magazine Dec 2005, the story was told by a grandmother of how she and her 6 year old granddaughter (Marisa) were singing Christmas carols. The grandmother decided to record Marisa singing. After singing a few songs Marisa just wanted to talk. As she talked, the grandmother was very impressed with how well Marisa had grasped the true meaning of Christmas. The grandmothers said in her letter to Mature Living, "I could not suppress my laughter when she concluded 'Jesus is the reason for the season. He wants us to be good people. Even if we don't mean to do bad things, Jesus still does not like it, but He is the one who saved us. Isn't that right, Mamaw?' I agreed and then she said "Yes and if that old donkey they were riding on had passed out, we would never have had baby Jesus'."

Isn't it funny how children think. Marisa believed if one little thing had gone wrong, Jesus would have never been born. However, when you think about it, as adults we can think rather narrowly about Christ at times as well. For instance, when we examine "the Life" of Christ, we usually only consider His earthly life. We think of His birth in Bethlehem and climaxed with His ascension into heaven after His death, burial, and resurrection.

When we examine His statement in John 14:6, we see He is not just speaking about His earthly life, but His very nature. He is the Life, Life eternal! Life eternal is found through faith in Christ Jesus. Jesus has always existed. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus. When we do come to Him by faith believing that He is the Savior, we receive eternal life! Life that is eternally based upon the very nature of our eternal Lord and Savior. He is the one who gives eternal life to all who trust in Him! Why? Because He is "the Life"!

As we celebrate "The Life of Christ" this Christmas season, let us remember that He is "the Life". He is eternally and forever God, Emmanuel God with us, Emmanuel God who dwelt among men. "Emmanuel, Emmanuel, His name is called Emmanuel; God with us, revealed in us; His name is called Emmanuel." Matthew 1:23 "...God with us"

What a wonderful name..."The Life" Eternal!

Merry Christmas!
