Ephesians 2:14 reads, “For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.”
The dictionary defines peace as a state or tranquility or serenity, and a state of not being in war. Throughout the world’s history many great men have tried to have peace in the world. From Presidents to Prime Ministers to religious leaders, all have failed to bring total peace to the world. Even if the world was completely without war, there would never be peace like the peace that is found in Jesus.
Jesus is mentioned many times throughout the Bible when talking about peace. Isaiah 9:6 speaks of the coming of Jesus and refers to Him as many names one of those being the Prince of Peace. So not only is Jesus our peace, He is our Prince of Peace! In the Book of John chapter 16, Jesus tells his disciples how He has overcome the world, and in Verse 33, Jesus says, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace,” So not only is Jesus our peace, our peace can be found in Him.
Jesus goes on to say in verse 33, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” After Jesus told his disciples that peace was through Him, he tells them that they will face some tribulation or hard times, but not to worry about those things because He has overcome them. It is comforting to know that as Christians even though hard times may come, that Christ has already overcome the world and its troubles to give us peace. A quote from an unknown author reads, “Peace that Jesus gives is not the absence of trouble, but is rather the confidence that He is there with you always.” True peace is found in the Jesus, and even when times become tough, peace (Our Peace) can be found in that fact that He is always there with you.
So in this Christmas season, when you hear the term “Peace on Earth,” remember that true peace is found in Jesus.
He is Our Peace!
